Winemaker Believes 1998 Cap*Rock Chardonnay Best Ever!

With the 1998 Cap*Rock Chardonnay, winemaker Kim McPherson attained his stylistic goal for this popular white varietal wine.  "We were very pleased with the 1997 Chardonnay," said John Bratcher, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  "It received a Best Buy rating in THE WINE ENTHUSIAST, but with the new '98 Chardonnay, Kim has definitely taken another big step up in quality and greater value.  This wine can stand side by side with any California Chardonnay in the same price range."

According to Kim, "The 1998 Chardonnay had the benefit of more oak barrel aging which gives it the added complexity I wanted while keeping the balance of rich fruit and dryness we had in the '97 vintage.  We also had very good grapes to work with in 1998 just like we did in 1997."  The 1998 Cap*Rock Chardonnay was released just before the end of 1999 and will be available throughout Texas in 2000 with an average retail price of $8.00 to $9.00

First Reserve Chardonnay Since 1991

The 1998 crush allowed Kim to produce a Reserve Chardonnay, the first since the 1991 vintage.  The wine was 100% barrel fermented and aged using only the very best lots of Chardonnay and the production was limited to just over 200 cases.  Judging by the reaction of several wine professionals and Cap*Rock Wine Club members who tasted the wine, the '98 Reserve Chardonnay will be worth seeking out after release in late February of 2000.  Kim made the only Texas Chardonnay ever to win a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco Fair back in 1986 and said, "I believe this is a better Chardonnay."  We think he's right.
