Cap*Rock Winemaker![]() Kim McPherson A native of Lubbock, Kim graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Food and Nutrition Science. He studied Enology and Viticulture at U.C. Davis and did an apprenticeship at Trefethen Winery in Napa Valley. He returned to Lubbock in 1978 to become winemaker at Llano Estacado Winery, founded by his father, Dr. Clinton McPherson. Kim has worked and consulted for several wineries. He was brought in as winemaker during the planning stage for the Cap*Rock label in 1992. Cap*Rock wines have been recognized as "Best Buys" and "Best Values" in Wines & Spirits and The Wine Enthusiast. He is the only winemaker who ever made a Texas Chardonnay that won a Double Gold Medal at the prestigious San Francisco Wine Fair. Kim's wines at Cap*Rock have won Gold medals in national, international and Texas wine competitions.
