Werner Butz, owner of Wines of America and Cap*Rock's representative in
Europe, made his annual December visit to Lubbock to finalize plans for the
Cap*Rock labels and new red and white table wines for Europe. Werner
said, "Cap*Rock has a big following of faithful clients awaiting each new
vintage from Lubbock. Our market is not only Switzerland, the biggest at
this time, but now we have introduced Cap*Rock in the Czech Republic, an
upcoming new market with great respect and love for the Lone Star
State." Winemaker Kim McPherson said, "After tasting the
wines, Werner was so impressed, he plans to expand sales into Holland and
Germany." Talking about Cap*Rock, Werner stated, "In
Switzerland, people have been so grateful to find out that it is not only
California that produces top class wines."
Dallas Wine Club Members Enjoy a Day in at the Winery
On Saturday, August 23rd, 30 Dallas Wine Club members traveled to the High
Plains of West Texas to visit Cap*Rock winery. Members had a fun-filled
day that started with a complete tour of the winery by winemaker, Kim
McPherson, which fortunately was the exact timing of our "crush"
this year. Kim explained the process in its entirety and mesmerized the
wine club members with all the details.
The tour began in our newly renovated courtyard and then to the area where
the actual crushing of grapes takes place. The tour continued to the
white room where members were amazed to learn the processes of the white wines
in stainless steel and then to the red room where the red wines were
fermenting in the oak barrels. The tour culminated in the bottling room
where Kim explained the bottling processes. From hearing their remarks,
the members thoroughly enjoyed every step of the tour.
The members also enjoyed a delicious gourmet Italian lunch followed by a
full wine tasting by Kim. They were able to taste all varieties of
Cap*Rock wines and learned how they were made. Kim's presentation and
the tour helped them understand and appreciate the long process from wine to
bottle. After touring, tasting and shopping at the winery, the members
headed back to the airport, but not before driving by Cap*Rock's
vineyards. Some members were lucky enough to even taste the grapes right
off of the vines. The day was a success and members had a great time!
